Counseling is a bit like “cleaning house.” I stand with clients at the front door of “their house”. We look at what needs attention – maybe immediate chaos and clutter in the entry, maybe the bedroom is a disaster, or maybe the basement is so vast and dark that you dare not go down there.
My “cleaning” approach lies in narrative therapy – the stories of who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. We will challenge these stories from many angles. A complete picture can yield a healthier understanding of self, others, and the world. I integrate techniques and interventions from appropriate theories as well – all to create forward movement. We will plan and prioritize a process of growth and healing based strengths and a real hope.
